Project Don't Dump Them is something we are going to tentively try. This may end up being a fail of epic proportions, but we think it's atleast worth giving it a shot.
We live in rural South Carolina where a large percentage of the areas population hunt with hounds in one way or another. In turn hounds make up a HUGE portion of the areas stray population. There tends to be an influx of stray hounds that occurrs December through Feburary. This is because Christmas comes followed directly by the end of deer season here in South Carolina.
Then you have the fact that there are multiple fox pens in the area. Most fox dogs are started at a young age. If they arent fast enough they have to go and if they are fast enough they are ran religiously. Joint maintenance isn't a huge thing in the sport sadly, so you end up with dogs that are less than 4 with their hips blown out. These dogs are no longer placing in competitions and ultimately have to go. Unless they end up in the deer woods or in someones yard, they tend to end up on the side of the road.
Usually a good portion of these unlucky hounds are dumped in remote areas to avoid being seen actually getting dumped by passerby's. By the time these dogs are spotted, they are typically very malnourished and in pretty bad shape. Many are far to scared by the time they are found to be caught easily and require being patterened and then trapped. Then you have the ones that aren't found soon enough, the last thing they knew was being alone, cold & hungry.
If you are considering dumping your hounds, please don't. Before you do message our page! From there we can set up a designated day & time for you to drop them off with us. If transportation is an issue, pick up can be arranged. No fees, hassel or drama. You'll simply show up, sign some papers releasing ownership of each hound over to R.A.V.E, drop them off and leave. We will then vet them, temperament/ability test them & then find home placements.
Here at RAVE we aren't anti dog hunting or fox hunting. We are however anti disposing of the dogs who live to please you on the side of the road to fend for themselves. Project Don't Dump Them will hopefully save time, money, our sanity and the lives of hounds that deserve so much better. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us and remember... #ProjectDontDumpThem
Donate deer, moose and elk horns to an amazing cause. Most hunters and their friends have horns/antlers laying around the garage or yard. The idea and effort is to gather those to help pay for the costs associated with Project Dont Dump Them. You can read more about Project Don't Dump Them by clicking the button below.
R.A.V.E is one of the few if not the only local rescue who isn't anti Dog Hunting... We are just anti irresponsible houndsmen. We LOVE seeing happy healthy dogs do what they love. We dont like picking up emaciated hounds that were dumped for one reason or another. Help us help you, fewer stray hounds might just help keep dog hunting around in our area a bit longer. If you are interested in donating PLEASE don't hesitate to reach out to arrange dropoff. We will be taking mail in donations to our PO Box. We will also pick up locally if needed.
